Economic aspects of ecological urban and regional development
TV-L E-13, (40 hours per week)

The Institute
The Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) is a member of the Leibniz Association and with 120 employees the largest spatial development research institute in Germany. It carries out interdisciplinary research into issues of sustainable spatial development from an ecological perspective across all spatial scales. This involves the comprehensive analysis of current trends and dynamics, the assessment of impacts, and the investigation of responses in terms of societal behaviour and policy. The IOER addresses a wide array of questions of regional, urban and landscape development, as well as planning. Of central importance to its research work is the review and further development of the policies, strategies, instruments, methods and tools needed for policy implementation.

Position Description
We are seeking a research associate to work within the research area "Economic aspects of ecological urban and regional development". The successful candidate will help in extending the economic research agenda at the IOER. The key tasks will be to formulate research questions related to regional policy, spatial development, regional and urban economics and economic geography, to conduct theoretical and empirical research and derive policy recommendations. We expect successful third-party project acquisition (e.g. in the framework of Horizon 2020 program, DFG, BMBF).

The successful candidate will contribute to the IOER research program and will help to further strengthen the role of the institute in the European Research Area. The research should lead to high-level academic publications.

Expected skills and competences
We expect a candidate with a high-quality doctoral degree in regional or environmental economics or economic geography (or close to completing). Experiences with regard to the development and implementation of research activities in a European context (e.g. 7th Framework Programme, ESPON, INTERREG, Horizon 2020) would be an asset. We appreciate publications in refereed journals as well as good contacts in research networks.

The ability to work individually on own initiative as a part of a team, good presentation skills and excellent English language skills are essential. It is expected that the successful candidate is able to prioritise and to meet deadlines and has the willingness to improve German language skills (for foreign applicants).

Women are particularly invited to submit their applications. Applications of disabled persons with a comparable qualification will be considered as priority.
