Towards a climate-neutral city – findings from the TRUST project presented

How can the transition to a climate-neutral city be achieved, and what role do knowledge-sharing and collaboration between numerous stakeholders from various sectors of urban society play in this process? For four years, the TRUST project has been addressing this question in the city of Görlitz. Under the leadership of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Transformative Urban Regeneration (IZS), people from Görlitz worked closely together on the project to make the city fit for the future. The experiences gained have been documented in various publications. These are intended to help everyone continue on this path together and successfully. At the end of March, the IZS presented the results at Görlitz Town Hall.

Climate neutrality can only be achieved by pooling knowledge and joining forces. This was the underlying principle of the TRUST project. The acronym stands for the project title “Transfer of Urban Sustainability Transition Knowledge: Towards Climate-Neutral Cities 2030 - The City of Görlitz as a Pilot ”. The core of the project was to bring together committed and interested people from Görlitz, to promote exchange, to implement selected measures on a trial basis, and to engage with the urban community through information and communication. The insights and experiences gained from this process have been incorporated into an "Agenda for Görlitz: Joining forces for sustainable and climate-neutral urban development". It is intended to serve as a guideline for the city of Görlitz’s continued journey towards climate neutrality. For with the end of the project, this journey is far from over.

The “Agenda for Görlitz” and further project results were presented by the team from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Transformative Urban Regeneration (IZS) at the end of March in Görlitz Town Hall. The IZS initiated the TRUST project, provided scientific support and implemented it between 2022 and 2026 in collaboration with the City of Görlitz, Stadtwerke Görlitz AG, Europastadt GörlitzZgorzelec GmbH, as well as Görlitz für Familie e. V., Second Attempt e. V. and the Görlitz Nachhaltig working group. The project was funded as part of the Leibniz Competition
