IOER presents its research at the "Week of the Environment" of the German Federal President

Settlement monitoring and the practical application of open geodata - these are the topics which the IOER will present at the "Week of the Environment" in June. Under the heading "This is how the future works!" the German Federal President and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) invite to the event. 150 exhibitors were selected by a jury of experts from more than 400 applications. Due to the Corona situation, they present their topics digitally. The opening on 10 June by the German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will also be attended by Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, as well as John Kerry, the 1st United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.

In its online profile at the "Week of the Environment" 2021, the IOER presents current research results on the topic of settlement monitoring and thus on decisive foundations for sustainable urban and regional development. Only through sustainable settlement development can natural soil and its vital functions be preserved, space for greenery and biodiversity be secured and the impacts of climate change be mitigated. In keeping with this topic, the IOER is presenting its Monitor of Settlement and Open Space Development (IOER Monitor). This Germany-wide land monitor supports cities and regions in developing sustainably. High-resolution, spatially and temporally comparable information on land use, degree of sealing, proportion of green space and other land-relevant topics is provided for the whole of Germany.

In addition to the IOER Monitor, the IOER will also present the newly developed web app "meinGrün" during the "Week of the Environment". This application exemplifies how open geodata can be used practically and provide more quality of life. The meinGrün web app aims to describe green spaces in cities in more detail and show how they can be easily accessed. The web app helps to find those green spaces that best suit one's needs - for jogging, walking or visiting the playground, for example
