IOER Forum

The construction sector is one of the world's biggest polluters. It is responsible for the enormous consumption of natural resources and the emission of large quantities of greenhouse gases. At the same time, it generates many tonnes of construction waste. If this is to change, more building materials need to be reused or recycled, buildings and components used for longer or more resource-efficient materials used.

Local authorities are considered to be the central level of action for the implementation of circular construction. Two events in June as part of the IOER Forum will focus on their perspective. A first presentation on 18 June is about the deconstruction of a former US military housing estate near Heidelberg. This will be followed on 25 June by an event focusing on the development, methodological insights and potential of the material cadastre in Gothenburg (Sweden).
