Tools and Research Data Infrastructures

Tools and research data infrastructures must be developed and made available for the transfer of knowledge and experiences as well as for research-based consulting.

Knowledge transfer and public advisory services are provided via the permanent scientific service "Monitor of Settlement and Open Space Development" (IOER-Monitor), which makes use of procedures developed throughout Germany and today provides online over 70 indicators on Germany’s spatial development.

The IOER forecasting system enables projections to be made regarding developments in population, housing and residential areas as a basis for the updating of land use plans. A framework concept and a survey procedure have been developed to help identify infill development potentials.

The research results are presented at the annual Dresdner Flächennutzungssymposium (DFNS - Dresden Land Use Symposium) and published in the book series "Flächennutzungsmonitoring". The annual expert workshop "On the way to better land use statistics" contributes to the improvement of data gathering.
