Saxon-Czech Flood Risk Management II


The STRIMA II project supports the cross-border cooperation in flood risk management between Saxony and the Czech Republic. The focus here is on precautionary measures and risk prevention to reduce the consequences of river floods and heavy rainfall induced floods. This also considers an increase in intensity and frequency of such events due to climate change. A major concern of the project is the creation of cross-border data exchange and risk analysis methods to support the comparability as well as to strengthen information and actor networks.


In this project, the IOER is responsible for developing and refining of methods to assess the potential flood impacts on buildings, land use as well as transport and waterway infrastructures. It includes the identification and analysis of effects due to appropriate flood precaution measures. Options for flood prevention are systematized and classified before being transferred into a catalogue of measures and a web-based information system. This allows an assessment of flood measure effects and the drawing up of recommendations for their implementation. The developed methods are being tested in case studie areas of Saxony and the Czech Republic.

  • Functional enhancement of the synthetic model approach to consider the effects of flood mitigation measures
  • Designing of wire frames / mock-ups to specify functions and content of the web-based information system. The information system will illustrate the effects of flood mitigation measures on residential buildings.
  • Data model development as a basis for the risk module. The risk module is a key part of the web-based information system.
