Research Area:
Resource Efficiency of Settlement Structures

Database of Structures - buildings, infrastructure, building works

Questions concerning the material composition of the building stock are becoming increasingly prominent in debates around urban mining as well as within the discussion on the potential for resource conservation. Knowledge of the material stock is, however, still patchy. The continuing impact of climate change and the increasing frequency of extreme weather-related events is also highly relevant to society in view of the vulnerability of existing buildings. The IOER is currently assuming a leading role in these issues, particularly in the field of building and technical infrastructures.

The aim of the project is to ensure the systematic management of building data required for various projects within the research areas: Resource Efficiency of Settlement Structures and Environmental Risks in Urban and Regional Development. To this end, a modular interdepartmental database has been developed in order to gather together all existing IOER building data.

The IOER’s online information portal provides an overview of the wealth of generated data. The website provides details of the already compiled and processed building data.

Here interested parties can find information on the material composition of different buildings. Details are provided on the specific data used to construct synthetic building types. The site also contains references to current publications on the subject, e.g. on building stocks in Germany or on the recycling potential within the building sector. The database as well as the information portal are under continuous development.
