EUDYSÉ – Efficiency and Dynamics of Settlement Development under Disparate Spatial and Temporal Trends

In Germany, demographic developments have led to the juxtaposition of growth and shrinkage. As a result, settlements and open spaces are used inefficiently in relation to natural resource and financial input. But the effective combination of these contrary temporal and spatial trends also offers potential for innovation and new scope for development.

Two regions with differing development dynamics have been taken as examples for the development of efficiency concepts in defining a leitbild for resource-efficient and low-emission settlement development that takes account of both the historical situation and development potential. The underlying hypothesis was that a leitbild for resource-efficient and low-emission settlement development can be successfully defined only where the starting situation and development paths that arise from it are taken into account.
