Geodata – making it usable and accessible

Unlocking the potential for sustainable change

The IÖR-Forschungsdatenzentrum provides information on land use, settlements, buildings and ecosystems. Its services are aimed at researchers, as well as policymakers, public administrators, the media, the business sector and civil society. The services are being further developed with a focus on practical application and user needs in order to address the diverse requirements of these user groups and enhance their usability. A key question is therefore: what measures can be taken to derive added value for society and science from geodata? To explore this question and discuss potential solutions with an interested audience, we would like to dedicate this series of events to selected topics relating to the creation, linking and processing of (geo)data.

Tim Schnettker from the Technologiestiftung Berlin will kick off the series with a fokus on the users. He will present the newly developed Open-Data Engagement Shell Framework (ODES). Using practical examples, he will demonstrate what data products must look like to be usable by various stakeholders and how ODES helps to specifically bridge the gap between data publication and societal impact.

Sebastian Wichert from the LMU-ifo Economics & Business Data Centre (EBDC) will demonstrate how collaborations with companies can create sustainable added value for both businesses and research. His presentation will outline key findings and recommendations from the Handbook on Best Practices for Accessing Data through Firm Collaborations.

Further Events are in preparation.
