The library of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological and Regional Development specializes in the spatial sciences. The collection currently includes about 17000 volumes. Some 140 journals are held.

The library may be used not only by IOER scientists but also by external users, for example students from the TU Dresden.

It is an open-access library. Books may be borrowed by any user after registration. Periodicals may be borrowed only by members of the Institute; all other users may consult them on the premises. A photocopier is available for immediate copying.

The library provides a computer workstation where the user may search the entire collection with the help of the data base system FAUST. Online access to specialised data banks relevant for spatial science is also available.

For members of the Institute, library staff can obtain technical literature not to be found in the collection from other Dresden libraries. Inter-library lending and document supply services complete the range of services offered.
